2025-26 JHU Once Randomized Controlled Trial Randomization Brief

We're thrilled that the Center for Research and Reform at Johns Hopkins University's School of Education is conducting a randomized controlled trial of Once during the 2025-26 school year. Here is the randomization brief explaining how the samples were randomized and how the study is designed.

We're eager to learn from their analysis of the causal impact between paraprofessionals teaching kindergarten students to read, one-on-one, in-person through daily 15 minute tutoring sessions and student reading achievement measured by nationally normed assessments.

The study is taking place in 2 states, 3 districts and 8 schools (442 kindergarten students).

We expect to have results to share by late summer or early fall. Stay tuned!

And please don't hesitate to reach out to Once or CRRE if you have questions about the randomization brief.
