Summary:

Mom gives Tiff a comic book and tells her that Thunder Runner would be a good role model.  Tiff reads about how Thunder Runner uses her wits, courage, and super speed to reverse a tornado. Tiff wants to use her skills to help others, just like Thunder Runner.

In this imaginative retelling of the story, "Thunder Runner", students have a familiar story to help them transition to serif font.

Full Text:

Page 1)   mom gave tiff a comic and said that the thunder runner was a perfect example for tiff to be like.  
Page 2)   thunder runner ran so fast that it made sparks explode from her feet!
Page 3)   a horrible storm popped up.  the wind spun and spun until it made a big twister.
Page 4)   "run!" they screamed as it neared the streets.
Page 5)   thunder runner said, "I can't just stand here and let bad things happen."
Page 6)   rather than save herself, thunder runner dove in the harsh, spinning wind.
Page 7)   "if I run the other way, it may stop the storm," she said.  she pumped her arms and legs until she reached her top speed.
Page 8)   at last, the storm broke up.  thunder runner said, "that was hard, but I can do hard things if I keep at it!"
Page 9)  she said, "the speedy skills I have do not mean much if I do not help others."
Page 10) tiff said, "I want to be like thunder runner and help others."

When one student finishes reading the booklet, you can pass it on to the next student who is ready for it.  Or you can create one copy for each student and tell them that they can color the pictures when they finish reading it.
