Curriculum

How the Once early-reading curriculum works — a scripted, one-on-one program organized into spiraling cycles and tasks that students move through at their own pace.

Once is a scripted early-reading curriculum meant for you to use with students one-on-one, in person. Students do not need any prior knowledge about reading to participate successfully in this program. The one-on-one format allows you to adjust the pace of instruction according to students’ needs. Students should progress through the curriculum as fast as they can or as slowly as they need to.

Scope & Sequence

The Once curriculum is organized into cycles that are each broken into tasks that focus on different skills, like reviewing, segmenting, blending, rhyming, story reading, and writing. These cycles and tasks are not “lessons” that students are expected to complete every time they have a session with an instructor. Instead, students should move as fast as they can or as slowly as they need to as they progress through the program.
